Yet another quest!

Even though the hound has a backlog of reviews and pictures to post, I can’t help thinking about my next quest. No, not the local BBQ restaurant quest or the series of BBQ contests I will be judging this year, but my new desire for a Cincinnati chili quest. Even though I’m not a native Cincinnatian, I learned very early to love that wonderful, unique to Cincinnati concoction. So I’m thinking, why not adapt the BBQ contest judging system to chili? Using a 3-way as the standard entry, we could use multiple judges, rate it on various weighted attributes, then total the points across the judges to determine the final score. The big difference would be that BBQ is a blind rating system, but here we would know our entries. I think the hound could still be objective.

Here is an initial thought for criteria and weightings. Please, feel free to weigh in on this. Hound doesn’t like to work in a vacuum!

1. Noodle quality & texture (.5 weight)
2. Cheese texture and quality (1.0 weight)
3. Overall taste of chili (2.0 weight)

Next we have the entries to consider. In order of number of area locations, some contenders might be:

Skyline
Gold Star
Dixie Chili
Empress
Blue Ash Chili
Price Hill Chili

So, have I overlooked any great chili parlors? Feel free to suggest your favorite if I missed it.

i have totally been wanting to do a blind taste test of all the cincinnati chili parlors! don't forget camp washington chili and westside chili (which has a veggie cincinnati-style offering).

Thanks for the additions. I was considering doing it blind, but 3-ways are so much better when freshly made and served. I'll just have to remain very objective. I love Cincinnati style chili, but I'm really not predisposed to any particular one, so I should be OK. I just hope I can find some other tasters that are similarly in a non-committed chili relationship.
